Rajasthan, the land of majestic forts, opulent palaces, and vibrant culture, was the perfect backdrop for our December vacation. We, Amal Ray and Shweta Ray, embarked on a journey through this regal state, exploring its rich history and architectural wonders. Day 1: Arrival in Jaipur
Morning: We landed in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, and checked into The Lalit Jaipur. This luxurious hotel offered a comfortable start to our trip, with its modern amenities and royal charm.
Afternoon: Our first stop was the City Palace, a stunning blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. We marveled at the intricately designed courtyards and museums within the palace complex. Next, we visited Jantar Mantar, the UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its astronomical instruments. The precision and scale of these instruments were truly impressive.
Evening: We couldn’t miss the iconic Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of Winds,” which offered a picturesque view, perfect for photographs. For dinner, we dined at Chokhi Dhani, a cultural village resort where we enjoyed traditional Rajasthani cuisine and folk performances .
Day 2: Exploring Jaipur
Morning: Our day started with a visit to Amber Fort, situated on a hilltop. We chose the jeep ride up to the fort and explored its grand courtyards and intricate interiors. The views from the fort were breathtaking. On our way back, we stopped at Jal Mahal, the Palace on the Water, for some lovely photos.
Afternoon: We had lunch at LMB (Laxmi Misthan Bhandar), where we indulged in traditional Rajasthani sweets and snacks. Post-lunch, we visited the Albert Hall Museum, which offered a fascinating glimpse into Rajasthan’s art and history.
Evening: We wandered through the local markets, Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar, hunting for souvenirs, textiles, and jewelry. Dinner at Peacock Rooftop Restaurant provided a delightful end to the day, with delicious food and a view of the cityscape.
Day 3: Jaipur to Jodhpur
Morning: We drove to Jodhpur, known as the Blue City, and checked into Umaid Bhawan Palace. This iconic hotel was a royal retreat, offering a blend of luxury and heritage.
Afternoon: Our first visit was to Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India. The massive walls and panoramic views of the Blue City were awe-inspiring. We also visited Jaswant Thada, a beautiful marble cenotaph built in honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II.
Evening: Dinner at Indique, with its rooftop dining and views of Mehrangarh Fort, was a memorable experience. The ambiance and food were exceptional.
Day 4: Jodhpur to Udaipur
Morning: We drove to Udaipur and checked into The Leela Palace Udaipur, which provided stunning views of Lake Pichola and luxurious accommodations.
Afternoon: We explored the City Palace, which offered grand courtyards, galleries, and balconies showcasing the royal heritage. A boat ride on Lake Pichola was next, providing spectacular views of the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir.
Evening: For dinner, we visited Ambrai, a restaurant by the lake. The setting and food made for a perfect evening.
Day 5: Discovering Udaipur
Morning: We visited Jag Mandir, an island palace on Lake Pichola. Then we explored Saheliyon Ki Bari, a historic garden known for its beautiful fountains and lush greenery.
Afternoon: Lunch at Khamma Ghani was delightful, offering traditional Rajasthani dishes. We attended a cultural performance at Bagore Ki Haveli in the evening, which featured traditional dance and music.
Evening: We enjoyed shopping for local crafts and souvenirs at the local markets, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.
Day 6: Udaipur to Ranakpur
Morning: We drove to Ranakpur and checked into Ranakpur Safari Lodge, a comfortable stay amidst scenic surroundings.
Afternoon: Our visit to the Ranakpur Jain Temple was awe-inspiring. The temple’s intricate marble carvings and numerous pillars were truly a marvel.
Evening: We had a quiet dinner at the lodge, reflecting on the day’s experiences.
Day 7: Ranakpur to Pushkar
Morning: We drove to Pushkar and checked into The Pushkar Resort, a serene retreat with excellent facilities.
Afternoon: We visited Pushkar Lake, a sacred spot, and explored the Brahma Temple. The local markets were vibrant, offering a variety of traditional handicrafts and souvenirs.
Evening: Dinner at Sunset Cafe was a treat, with beautiful views of the lake and a range of delicious dishes.
Day 8: Pushkar to Delhi
Morning: We drove to Delhi, checking into The Imperial, a luxurious hotel with historical charm.
Afternoon: We visited the Red Fort, a symbol of India’s rich history, and Humayun’s Tomb, a beautifully preserved Mughal tomb.
Evening: Dinner at Bukhara was a highlight, with its renowned North Indian cuisine.
Day 9: Departure from Delhi
Morning: Before our departure, we managed to visit India Gate and Qutub Minar if time allowed.
Departure: We headed to the airport for our onward journey, filled with wonderful memories of our royal sojourn through Rajasthan.
